ADVANCING CLINICAL CARE
If you’re a nurse with a bachelor’s degree, our Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice program will prepare you for advanced practice in safe anesthetic management throughout a patient’s perioperative period. As with all advanced practice nursing professions, the demand for nurse anesthetists is rising rapidly. As a nurse anesthetist, you’ll practice with a high level of autonomy. In our program, you’ll quickly gain the knowledge and expertise you need to be confident in your consultative, research, and clinical skills. And true to our Catholic Benedictine values, you’ll learn that, at Mount Marty, we believe that every person has inherent value and is deserving of respect and consideration.
A TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE
After graduating and completing your national boards, you’ll be qualified to work in every area of anesthesia as a clinical practitioner, researcher, administrator or educator throughout the United States. The nurse anesthesia program at Mount Marty is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA), a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education (CHEA) and the U.S. Department of Education (USDE). In fact, Mount Marty University was the first school in the nation to offer a baccalaureate degree in anesthesia in 1971. From the founding of Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing in 1905 to the evolution of our first graduate degree in anesthesia at Mount Marty in 1983, we’ve been committed to educating the best nurses in the region.
- Real-life scenarios. You’ll use high-fidelity patient simulation during your first year to reinforce classroom instruction and prepare you for clinical practice.
- Hand-picked clinicals. We’ll work with you to find clinical positions throughout the Plains States through a personalized matching process. You’ll provide care for patients in a variety of settings at your primary and specialty rotations sites.
- Expert teaching. All of your classroom instruction is provided by nurse anesthetists. Our faculty average more than 25 years' experience as nurse anesthetists and all of our full-time faculty have doctoral degrees.
- Peer support. Your cohorts in the program will be the first to get their hands dirty to help you with your studies because they’re taking most of the same classes at the same time.

Mount Marty University utilizes clinical sites throughout the Plains States. Each student is assigned to a single primary site in South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, or North Dakota. In addition to their primary site, all students rotate to enrichment rotations located in South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, and North Dakota. The program utilizes 50+ clinical sites to obtain a wide variety of experiences for students.
