BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Miller joined Mount Marty University in July 2020 as vice president for academic affairs. He has over 25 years of experience in higher education where he started his career as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Ohio University. From there, he joined Carthage College where he spent 20 years as a professor of sociology and criminal justice.
During his time at Carthage, Dr. Miller taught broadly across the curriculum. In addition to courses in sociology and criminal justice, he contributed to the general education program, the Women and Gender Studies Program and he co-led regular January Term study tours to Central and South America. His scholarship has focused primarily on criminology with particular interest in risk taking, crime, deviance, and juvenile delinquency. He has presented his work at professional conferences and has published many journal articles, book chapters, encyclopedia articles and book reviews.
Throughout his career he has held a wide range of administrative appointments, including Criminal Justice Program Director, Sociology Department Chair, Social Science Division Chair, Acting Dean of Graduate and Professional Studies, Associate Provost for Continuing Studies, and Associate Provost for New Program Development.
As vice president for academic affairs at Mount Marty, Dr. Miller focused on helping the university build on its recent momentum by working with faculty and administration to develop distinctive, innovative opportunities that serve students and the surrounding communities. In July 2021, he was appointed executive vice president and provost where he oversees Academic Affairs, Admission, Athletics, Financial Aid, Institutional Effectiveness, the library, Student Success, Marketing, and the Registrar’s Office.
