BIOGRAPHY

Having taught for over 20 years in the primary grades of public schools in Mesa, AZ and Fort Collins, CO, I returned to college in 2009 to earn my doctorate at Colorado State in Educational Leadership, Renewal and Change. There I studied the workings of the educational system and how to produce the best connections in learning between students and content, especially focusing on Curriculum and Instruction and Social Emotional Learning. Being a firm believer in the adage “they don’t care what you know until they know that you care,” I have always been interested in the connection between the relationships teachers build with the students and their increased engagement and academic success. Much of my ongoing research revolves around these concepts or relationships and its impact on learning.

On a personal level, I am the mother of two grown children living in Yankton, SD, and enjoy reading, walking, and the great outdoors. You may be surprised to find me out riding my Vespa around town, checking out the farmer’s market or vintage shops, or participating in Art classes.
