Mount Marty University Announces 2024 Fine Arts Hall of Fame Inductees

Mount Marty University is proud to announce the 2024 Fine Arts Hall of Fame inductee class. These inductees were chosen by the Fine Arts Hall of Fame Committee based on their passion, dedication and service to the arts at Mount Marty and their own communities.

The following individuals will be inducted into the Mount Marty Fine Arts Hall of Fame on Sunday, September 22 in Marian Auditorium during the annual Lancer Days weekend: Alice Hohenthaner, Dean Rettedal, Michael Lavelle ‘74, and Fred Ertz ‘74.

  • Alice Hohenthaner will be honored posthumously for her work as a faculty member at Mount Marty for nearly 22 years, which included starting the band program in 1974.
  • Long-time band director Dean Rettedal led numerous instrumental ensembles for 33 years (1982- 2015).
  • A 1974 Mount Marty graduate with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Art, Michael Lavelle, went on to have a successful career as an owner/operator of different art galleries and is an accomplished artist.
  • Fred Ertz graduated from Mount Marty in 1974 with degrees in Oral Communications and Journalism, Biology/Chemistry, and Pre-Med. He continued on to a successful career in broadcasting and consulting.
