Mount Marty University Hosts Children’s Book Reading with Author Malynda Zuck

July 9, 2024

Mount Marty University will host the Yankton Author Malynda Zuck as she reads her new children's book, "Forecast Your Feelings," on July 24, 2024, in the Mother Jerome Schmitt Library on the Yankton campus at 10 a.m. Themed snacks will be provided along with a craft activity.

Zuck’s children’s book was number one on Amazon’s New Releases in the Children’s Literature Collections list for three weeks in June and July. “Understanding and responding to our feelings is such an important skill for every human,” said Zuck. “‘Forecast Your Feelings’ is a rhyming children’s book, teaching readers to recognize and cope with their feelings. It emphasizes that all feelings are valid, and we can recognize what we are feeling by being mindful of the sensations we feel within our bodies.”

This event is special to Zuck. Four years ago, her family moved to Yankton largely because of Mount Marty. She took a counseling job at the university while her husband, Heath, became assistant football coach in the program's first year. "We are so thankful for Mount Marty, and I'm grateful they have invited me to showcase this new milestone in my life.” Zuck now works as a counselor at Yankton Middle School.

Zuck hopes to make an impact on young readers at this event. “This book promotes emotional intelligence by empowering readers to recognize and regulate their emotions. With these skills children can experience clearer self-expression, more satisfaction and greater success. My hope is to get this book into the hands of as many young readers as possible, so we can continue to equip children with the tools they need to thrive emotionally and build a brighter, more connected future! We will also be offering fun snacks and a craft that will allow participants to take a coping strategy home to practice what they've learned.”

Anyone is welcome to the book reading event, especially parents and their children.
