Prairie Adventures: Mount Marty Human Resources Director Creates South Dakota Blog from Hunting Passion

Mount Marty Director of Human Resources, Lane Speirs, has turned his childhood passion of hunting into a successful blog that shares adventures from his home state of South Dakota: his blog is called “Hunt 605." “'Hunt 605’ is a space for me to share my stories, pictures and adventures as I explore The Mount Rushmore State,” said Speirs. He also shares articles from Crow Creek Wildlife Guide Service, which is owned and operated by his father, Bob Speirs, along with other outdoor writers on his platform. 

Hunting has been a part of Speirs’s life ever since he could remember. “There are pictures and home videos of me in camouflage well before I was even walking!” His father inspired Speirs to start his hunting blog. “My father is a passionate hunter and outdoor writer, and much of my upbringing was spent sharing time with him outdoors. This instilled in me a shared love of hunting and storytelling, which eventually led to the development of ‘Hunt 605.'” 

Speirs takes advantage of hunting opportunities year-round in South Dakota to share on his blog. “Hunting seasons in South Dakota have a variety of start and end dates, predominantly taking place in the fall (starting in August and ending in January). In these seasons, I spend time pursuing antelope, whitetail, mule deer, upland game birds and waterfowl. South Dakota has one of the most diverse hunting landscapes in the country, so there is no shortage of opportunities!” Although there is less variety of hunting seasons in the spring and summer, Speirs uses this time to explore South Dakota’s many fishing spots. 

Through “Hunt 605," Speirs has had opportunities to work with Mountain Dew as a Dew Team Member to promote their Mtn Dew Outdoors Campaign as well as with Silver Eagle Arms, a shotgun brand through TR Imports. “In both of these partnerships, I share photos, videos and stories across my platforms that help showcase these companies. In exchange, I'm sent a variety of products for testing and personal use.” As a Dew Team Member, Speirs receives a monthly shipment of Pepsi products along with outdoor gear. When he worked with TR Imports, Speirs was sent a new shotgun to test and review.

“Hunt 605” has grown over the years, and Speirs enjoys hearing the positive reviews regarding his pictures and stories from people all over the country. But Speirs favorite part of it all is “it gives me an added incentive to actively pursue my passions, even when life gets busy.”
