The mission of the Mount Marty University Teacher Education Department is to prepare high quality teachers. The Department uses a developmental approach within a context of relationships to help students grow in their sense of self and their ability to serve as competent teachers.

Note: This minor will not lead to certification in special education. This minor will strengthen preparation of regular education majors and is also an appropriate minor for a psychology major, human service major or a criminal justice major.

A unique characteristic of the teacher education program at Mount Marty University is that you will be able to work in schools every year. This helps connect the theory of your courses with the practice in your career. You will have the opportunity to work in area schools beginning with freshman orientation class through the field experiences, practica, and into the student teaching semesters:

- Mount Marty Teacher Education Club
- Students majoring in education have the opportunity to participate in the Teacher Education Club. Members meet monthly to plan service projects for students and families of the local community. Through this service, Education Club members grow professionally, creating networks to assist them in their future as educators.
- South Dakota Education Association/National Education Association-Student Program
- Students join the state education organization which provides professional growth opportunities through newsletters, current research, and networking. SDEA-SP also provides liability insurance to teacher candidates.
