There are numerous opportunities for outside scholarships. The following are scholarships that are great for students considering Mount Marty University. 

Amount: $40,000

Eligibility: This program is open to incoming Fall students who have at least a cumulative unweighted high school GPA of 2.8, a minimum ACT score of 20 or SAT score of 1000, and plan on majoring in nursing. Students are funded a $20,000 loan per year for the final two years of their program at Mount Marty. Students commit to work as a nurse for three years at an Avera facility after graduating from Mount Marty University, as well as work part time at an Avera facility during their time at Mount Marty. Once the three years post-graduation are complete, the $40,000 loan is forgiven.

Amount: $1,000
Eligibility: The scholarship is open to anyone planning on attending Mount Marty University in the next academic year. This includes new students, students already attending Mount Marty University, non-traditional students, and transfer students. The applicant's family must be registered members of a Catholic parish in the Diocese of Sioux Falls.

Application

The Dakota Corps Scholarship covers full-tuition and generally applicable fees through funding from the state of South Dakota, private businesses, nonprofit corporations and matching funds from Mount Marty University. You must compete through an application process and are selected by the Dakota Corps Scholarship Board. You must enroll in a critical need field and agree to work in an area of critical need in South Dakota equal to the sum of the number of years of scholarship received plus one year to fulfill the scholarship obligation.

Amount: $2,000
Eligibility: Freshman, South Dakota resident and South Dakota high school graduate, 3.0 GPA and demonstrated financial need. A completed FAFSA is required.

The South Dakota Freedom Scholarship is South Dakota's first public / private partnership for a need-based scholarship, made possible by the generosity of First PREMIER Bank / PREMIER Bankcard, the State of South Dakota under the leadership of Governor Kristi Noem, Avera Health and Sanford Health. The Freedom Scholarship Endowment is the state's largest financial need-based scholarship. Managed by the South Dakota Community Foundation, this funding is in an endowment that will continue to provide scholarships in perpetuity.

You must be a resident of South Dakota at the time of high school graduation, have an ACT composite score of 24 or higher and complete high school course requirements commonly known as the Regents Scholar curriculum with no final grade below a C and a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The scholarship is up to $6,500 for four years if you meet renewal criteria.

Students should be sure to check with their employer and their parent's employer to see if they offer any scholarships. 

Many companies offer scholarships that are exclusive to employees and their families, or that are given to employees and their families before they are given to outside individuals. 

As is the case with any outside scholarship, employer-related scholarships must be reported to the financial aid office.
